it's Spooky season! Thank you for your support and participation in Blackoween™. Blackoween was created by Bre who is known as "Loc'D Booktician" online in 2020. Blackoween™ is a readathon created to focus on spreading awareness of Black Authors who write Crime Fiction. There has been people from all around the world who has participated in Blackoween™. Blackoween™ filed for trademark in 2022. So many good things has happened with authors and readers who has participated in Blackoween™. We can't wait to see you this year, next year, and years to come! Happy Blackoween™ everyone.

I'm not Black, can I participate?

Yes, of course. Everyone and anyone is encouraged to participate in Blackoween™. Blackoween™ asks that you participate in good faith. It's okay NOT like a book that you are reading but please don't make your dislike due to the race or any other intersecting marginalized identities of the author.

What qualifies as crime fiction?

Crime fiction is a book that has a mystery, thrilling, and/or suspenseful element to them. Crime fiction for the purpose of Blackoween™ is a book that is classified as mystery, horror, suspense, thriller, murder mystery, cozy mystery, detective mystery, legal thriller, hard-boiled fiction, and courtroom drama.

I don't read crime fiction, can I do a genre cross over.

Yes, the point of Blackoween™ is to make sure A CRIME FICTION genre is in the book. For example, you can read a book that is in the romance genre but have a mystery subplot.

I need book recommendations, where can I find them?

Of course, you can go to Youtube, Instagram, or Tiktok and use the following hastags #blackoween #blackoween™ #blackoweenathon to find recommendations. You can also go to Loc'D Booktician Youtube channel and Tiktok and find recommendations in her videos for the readathon. If you go to the website (website will go offline at the end of November 2023) listed below, there are more options to find recommendations.

What platforms can I find Blackoween™ content on?

Content creators will be making content on Tiktok, Twitter, Youtube, Instagram, and Twitch. Below are links to Blackoween™ accounts.

How long is Blackoween™?

Blackoween™ is for the duration of October (31 days), every year (as of now).

Can I share your videos/posts about Blackoween?

Of course you can. I post content for folks to share. If you are sharing content or discussing content around Blackoween™, we just ask that the authors of the book identify as Black. Blackoween™ is for Black authors promotion only.

Does DNF count?

Yes, to a degree. If you read 50% of the book and decided "this ain't my thang" it's time to DNF (Do not Finish) or PFN (Pause for now).

Am I allowed to re-read?

Yes, that lets the hosts of Blackoween™ and participants to know that the book was a good read. Feel free to re-read.

Can you double up on prompts?

Of course you can. If you are choose your journey, then choose your role within that area of Toulas Parrish, you double up on prompts within that area.However, once you have completed all the prompts in one area in Toulas Parrish and then moved on to another area, books you read in a previous area for other prompts will ONLY count for up to TWO prompts in the new area.
